£7m Covid-19 cash for firms

SNP MSP Rona Mackay has welcomed new figures showing 603 businesses in East Dunbartonshire have received Scottish Government grants to support firms through the coronavirus crisis.

A total of £7 million has been awarded in East Dunbartonshire through a Scottish Government scheme to support small businesses and the retail, hospitality and leisure sector. This grant support is worth over £1 billion and is part of the wider business support package worth £2.3 billion.

So that funding can be distributed as quickly as possible, eligibility for the grant scheme is linked to the non-domestic rates system.

Ms Mackay, who is urging firms to ensure they are receiving the support, said: “COVID-19 has posed some of the greatest challenges we have faced as a country. I know all too well the impact this is having on families, households and incomes. I am under no illusions this is a very difficult time for businesses. That is precisely why the Scottish Government funding is designed to support firms and ensure that our economy is on the best possible footing.”
