East Dunbartonshire people urged to shop local

People are being urged to shop local as retailers in Scotland start to emerge from lockdown this week.

As the shutters reopen on stores with on-street access after 14 weeks of shutdown, people are also being asked to shop responsibly to avoid any resurgence of the coronavirus.

The easing of restrictions is the first time many stores will have had customers since the Scottish government lockdown came into effect on March 23.

East Dunbartonshire retailers are appealing to customers to support their local shops to help them survive the coronavirus pandemic, which has devastated trade.

Traffic calming measures will be in place all week at Strathkelvin Retail Park at Bishopbriggs to cope with the expected upsurge in traffic.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted on Monday: “If you plan on visiting shops today, please do so responsibly. Maintain physical distancing, follow hygiene advice, wear a face covering and respect staff who may be asking you to shop differently.

“We’ve made so much progress against the virus - let’s not squander it.”
