It’s time to meet the neighbours

ARTISTS at Tramway and residents of Pollokshields have been preparing for this weekend for a while.

Saturday and Sunday mark the end of a project which started in October last year, chronicling everyday life on the bustling Albert Drive.

Those involved in the Albert Drive project will show off what they’ve learned about each other at the weekend event, bringing together theatre, visual art, dance, film, photography, installation and cooking to tell the story of the residents of Pollokshields.

Kicking off on Saturday at noon and running until Sunday evening, there’s plenty to see and do — including watching 20 residents aged three to 70 taking to the stage to describe their Albert Drive (the result of over 1,000 people attending Meet the Neighbours workshops, dropping into the pop-up Everybody’s House or encountering one of the Neighbourhood Watch team).

There’s also an exhibition featuring the work of six resident artists or groups, all showing off their ideas of southside culture.

If that isn’t enough to tempt, there’s the free shared meal, where visitors are invited to sample world cuisines with a Pollokshields twist.

Whether you’re a ‘Shields regular or not, this could be just the thing — and with all that time in the
making, the project is set to go out with a bang.

Event runs from noon on Saturday — performances at 3pm and 7.30pm Sat, 7.30pm Sun. Shared meal on Sat 1-3pm and 5-7pm, and Sun, 5-7pm. More info at www.albertdrive.com.
