Western Wildcats honour international heroes

WESTERN Wildcats honoured past and present international players when they unveiled three large framed prints of all players to date who have represented Scotland.

Existing members mingled with past players at Wildcat's Auchenhowie clubhouse recently to relive the long and illustrious past and to officially unveil the framed prints which represent the 57 internationalists who have played for Scotland between 1902 and 2008.

The club, founded in 1898, is the oldest existing hockey club in Scotland, and to underline this the first player honoured is a W. E. Wickam from 1902.

Former president, Angus Scott, said: "A total of 24 internationals turned up both past and present spanning more then 40 years of the club's history.

"One of our oldest internationalists was Tony Duncan, who played for Scotland between 1963-66. Dennis Hay also turned up. He was an internationalist in 1964 and was at the 1972 Olympics."

Current internationalists at the event included Vishal Marwaha and goalie Kris Kane, who are keeping Scottish hockey at the forefront of international hockey.

The club's proud history has seen Wildcats clinching the Scottish championship seven times and winning the Scottish Cup a further eight times while regularly competing in Europe.
