West’s start new league seaon with new coaches

West RFC 1st XV are now playing in the BT National League 3 and are looking forward to the challenges ahead.

The club welcomes new coaches Andy Douglas and Mike Cussack for the coming campaign after they replace Ewan Smith who stepped down at the end of last season.

Andy brings a wealth of talent and experience to the club, and is keen to develop the grass roots players who are the life-blood of West.

He is the West Coaching Development Officer with the SRU and originally from Haddington.

His playing career included a spell with Heriots and he has also had coaching experience with their 2nd XV. He also coached various pathways teams in the East and North.

Joining Andy as forwards coach is Mike Cussack, the Glasgow Warriors Prop. Mike has been through the Leeds Academy set-up and then Doncaster before coming to Glasgow Warriors.

A spokesman for the club said pre-season training has been going well.
