West of Scotland FC held on to secure a slim 19-17 victory at home to Dunfermline RFC.
Five minutes into the game, Dunfermline conceded a penalty and Mark Davis scored. The visitors then levelled with a penalty, but West came back with a drive through the centre for Fraser Smeaton to cross the line at the corner. The conversion was missed but West now had an 8-3 lead.
Ross McAulay then got a penalty in front of the posts which Davis duly converted to take the score at half time to 11–3.
Dunfermline were the first to score in the second half when scrum half Rhys Davis was gifted a ball at the West posts. Gregor McNeish added the extras.
Alex Frisken then scored a try but the conversion was missed to make it 19–10. The score was taken to a healthier 19-10 when Davis slotted a long penalty kick from the visitors 10m line. Dunfermline fought back with another try and the conversion brought the visitors within 2 points of West, but the Burnbrae side’s defence held strong to record their first victory of the year.
This Saturday they play Glasgow Hutchison Aloysius at Burnbrae with a 2pm kick-off.
Meanwhile Strathendrick, who have not played for a couple of weeks, are due to face Carrick away on Saturday in the West Division 2 league.
