West rugby club travelled to Hamilton for their last cup game of the year and went down 47-13.
The Burnbrae lads took an early lead with a penalty by Mark Davis but Hamilton quickly began to take control the play.
Every penalty to the home side was kicked to touch and a series of driving mauls from the line out gave them a couple of quick tries. One of them was a penalty try as West’s scrum half Harry Russell tried to stop the forward move. Russell was yellow carded for this effort.
A second penalty for West interrupted the flow of points to Hamilton - but not for long. Three more driving maul tries for the home side followed before half time, putting the game and the bonus point in the bag for them.
The second half was more open with the backs from both sides taking more control. Mark Davis managed another of his trademark tries with a slinky run to the line and James Cuthbertson was a few inches away from a second try.
West start 2013 back on league business with a home game on Saturday, January 5 against Dunfermline. Kick off is 2pm.
Meanwhile Strathendrick’s away game to Waysiders/Drumpellier was postponed because of the weather.
