West of Scotland ease relegation worries with win over Melrose

WEST consolidated their mid-table position in the SHE Premier Div 1 with an excellent 20-18 victory over third-placed Melrose.

The attendance at Burnbrae was reduced due in part to the rival attraction of the international between Wales and Scotland.

But for the dedicated West supporters who attended, the result was more uplifting than the one in Cardiff — despite their favourites facing a Melrose side containing five current club internationalists.

With four challenging games remaining West have their work cut out for them if they are to progress up the league.

On Saturday, they have a tough away fixture against title-chasers Ayr at Millbrae.

West received a home draw against Howe of Fife in the second round of the Scottish Hydro Premier Cup. The tie is scheduled for Saturday, March 13.
