West now sit second in the league following a confindent 49-11 victory over Dalziel in a performance which saw them run in eight tries against tough opposition.

However Dalziel opened the scoring when Darren Moon fired the ball over the uprights with a penalty given for not releasing. West fought back and went in front after a driving maul went 20m down the pitch. Alexander Fisken picked up and beat two defenders, with a neat pass finding Ross Carnegie on the
wing to score.

Dalziel pushed back with a series of attacks initially defended by West until Jamie McAulay was yellow carded for a high tackle. Darren Moon converted the penalty to put Dalziel back in the lead at 5-6. West pressure then forced Dalziel to clear directly to Mark Sim, who ran across the Dalziel defence, finding Blair Smith who beat his man to score. He missed the conversion.

West’s Angus Thomson increased their lead to score an unconverted try. This was increased further when Smith succeeded with a penalty after a scrum offence.

In the second half the ball was dropped near the line under Dalziel pressure but West ran up the bonus point after winning a scrum with the ball finding Alexander Fisken who managed to squirm under the Dalziel defence to down the ball for the fourth try. Blair Smith converted to make it 25-6.

Things turned decisively West’s way when Dalziel suffered 3 yellow cards in quick succession. The first was for a punch, the second for persistent breakdown offending and the third for a late tackle. In between the 2nd and 3rd, the West forwards pummeled the Dalziel line, initially defended but then Fisken spun it wide to Angus Thomson who scored his second and West’s 5th. Blair Smith just squeezed in the conversion.

Dalziel also lost a prop to an ankle injury and were now down to 12. They were tackling hard but a West passing move involving most of the home side found Jamie McAulay who scored unconverted to stretch the lead to 37-6. Then another good passing move found Darren Allan and he scored, again unconverted.

West ran in yet another try with a quick lineout and very quick hands saw Fintan Cuthbertson beat two defenders to finish well in the corner. Blair Smith added the extras.

However the scoring was not over. A speculative Dalziel chip into the corner found winger Kris Hughes who touched down to finish the scoring.
