United they stand: combined school rugby side triumph
Bearsden Douglas Academy rugby
A combined U18 rugby team from Bearsden and Douglas Academy won the Brewin Dolphin North Glasgow Regional Bowl Final after beating Boclair Academy 20-10.
This game had been postponed on several occasions due to adverse weather conditions, but eventually took place at Bearsden Academy on January 17.
Boclair started the scoring with a penalty within the first five minutes.
Midway through the first half the combined Bearsden/Douglas team scored a converted try and a penalty to bring the score to 10-3 at half time.
Boclair came back in the second half and equalled the scoring with a try and conversion and the match was fiercely contended for the next 10 minutes.
However, Boclair made a weak pass, Bearsden/Douglas intercepted and scored a breakaway try, which was converted, and now with their heads up they soon followed this with a further try to win the game.
Bearsden/Douglas now move into the national competition and face Boroughmuir/Gillespies at Meggatland after the prelims are finished in mid-February.
