IT was a disappointing end to the year for Partick Thistle when they were knocked off the top spot by Morton.
The Firhhill side only managed to grab one point following their 1-1 away draw to Airdrie United, while Morton beat fellow title chasing rivals Dunfermline 4-2.
Thistle simply didn’t get started in this game and it was the home side who went ahead that went in at half-time a goal to the good. John Boyle had a little too much space inside the Thistle box and he shot across Graeme Smith and into the far corner of the net to go into the break 1-0 up.
There was more urgency in the Thistle camp in the second half and it showed in their play. Although the visitors had the greater possession, they faultered with the final ball making wrong decisions.
Grant Adam produced a decent save in the 73rd minute but he wasn’t so lucky six minutes later with the equaliser.
Chris Erskine found space in front of the Airdrie United goal and he sent a shot into the roof of the net.
But there was to be no fairy tale end despite a number of chances.
