Dundee United 1
Partick Thistle 0
After battling well for 83 minutes, and matching a strong Dundee United team all over the pitch, Thistle received the sucker punch of conceding a penalty and ultimately losing the match.
In reality, a draw was the least they deserved. Further misery was added when Dan Seaborne was shown a straight red card for his last ditch challenge on Nadir Ciftci.
Speaking after the disappointment manager Alan Archibald said: “When you come to a place like Tannadice you know it’s always going to be tough but we had more than our fair share of chances and I thought we deserved more from the game.
“We weren’t clinical enough when we did get our chances – we know that – but it was a good performance and there are plenty of positives to take from it.”
The game swung on a big moment of controversy when United striker, Nadir Ciftci broke through on goal and was ultimately fouled inside the box by Jags skipper, Dan Seabourne.
Archie added: “I was very disappointed with the goal we lost. Our footage shows him [Ciftci] as being two yards offside. The fourth official’s telling us that our player touched the ball on the way through but we can’t see that.”
Above and beyond the result there are real positives for Alan to take from the performance, especially when comparing to the equivalent results from last season.
He said: “Dundee Utd turned us over twice up here last season and there was certainly no danger of that this time. We matched them all over the pitch and I think that shows that we have closed the gap between us and them since last season.”
However the was still bitterly disappointing but there were plenty of positives the squad can take from it such as confidence as they prepare for Saturday’s home game against St Johnstone.”
