Milngavie & Bearsden Swimming Club member Lauren Averell returned from Sheffield this week after an excellent performance as part of the Scotland North and West swimming team with a fourth spot in the 50m freestyle.
This was a personal best to give the team a very respectable 5th place finish overall against regions from England, Ireland and Wales.
The same weekend also saw her teammates put in some great performances at the West District Sprint Championships in Ayr. Leading the medal haul for the club were gold medallists Julie Williams and Holly Shearer.
Both girls were in action for the first time in a month after excellent performances at British level at the end of last season.
They picked up where they left off with Julie taking gold in the 50m backcrawl and 50m butterfly. Holly triumphed in the 50m freestyle.
Julie’s two gold medals takes her tally to 10 for the year in district competition and her performances this weekend - along with many other excellent finishes from the rest of the team helped the club to a second place finish with 110.5 points to put them second overall.
In first place was Ren96 with 183.5 and in third was City of Glasgow with 103. Indivudually three gold were won by Julie Williams in the 50fly, 50bc and
Holly Shearer in the 50fc.
