Squash seconds trounce rivals

THE Allander Cyan seconds team consolidated their place in the top half of the West of Scotland League Division 6 with a resounding home win against David Lloyd last week.

With the first team enjoying a week of rest, the second string were left to fly in the flag for Allander.

And with their local rivals from Anniesland in waiting, the seconds stormed to a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

At position 5, Norrie Macmillan was in less benevolent mood this week as he tucked away a sound 3-0 win to start the night off well.

Ray Small’s opponent at position 4 put up a valiant response despite being under the weather and contributed to Ray’s 3-0 easy win.

Similarly, Hamish McKay at 3 had clinical 3-0 win.

At position 2, Brian Cunningham and his opponent both earned themselves their team’s man of the match awards. Brian found himself two games behind before rallying to win the third easily.

Things looked promising for Brian but the fourth game was a tight affair that eventually went in his favour.

So the crowd was treated to a tense deciding fifth game that Brian won comfortably to win 3-2.

Team Captain Ian Gault playing in the top slot demonstrated how experience and fitness can triumph over placed shots as Ian won easily 3-0 to round off an excellent evening.

Both teams then enjoyed the excellent post-match hospitality from this year’s team sponsors, Cyan restaurant in Milngavie.
