Western Wildcats eased past relegation candidates Gordonians beating them 6-1 at Auchenhowie on Saturday.
Five of the goals were scored by Scott McArtney despite suffering a broken toe from his day job as a gardener.
McArtney said: “I had my foot crushed by a fellow worker on Thursday. He was pushing a wheel barrow and went over it and it broke a toe. It was touch and go to see if I was fit but I was desperate to play in this game. I felt like I was waddling around to begin with but once the adrenaline got going I was fine. I always score against Gordans but to score five was a real treat.”
The win maintains Western’s unbeaten start to the league campaign which has seen them already come up against some tough teams.
Joseph Simpson added the sixth goal after McArtney’s haul and Gordonians were left with a consolation effort before making the long trip home to Aberdeen.
On Saturday Wildcats welcome title rivals Menzieshill to Auchenhowie. Pushback is noon.
