MEMBERS of Milngavie and Bearsden Swimming Club were at Tollcross Leisure Centre for the Scottish Schools Relay Championship recently.
Youngsters from Bearsden Academy, Douglas Academy, Boclair Academy and The High School of Glasgow all had teams competing in the open age group and came away with an impressive medal haul.
Douglas Academy boys Euan Govan, Michael Tang, Calum Tait and Jack Thorpe won gold in the 4x50m freestyle and then completed the double, winning gold in the 4x50m individual medley.
Bearsden Academy girls Holly Shearer, Paige Lang, Megan Donnelly and Anneliese Walters won gold in 4x50m freestyle and won bronze in the 4x50m individual medley.
Boclair Academy girls Julie Williams and Kirstin McKinley were joined by Emma Serrie and Lynsay Hunter to pick up ilver in 4x50m individual medley.
Finally, High School girls Georgia Callander and Annie Shields (not pictured) won double gold in the S2 4x50m freestyle relay and 4x50m medley relay. Caroline Wallace also got bronze in one of the relay events.
Looking to the future 13 club members have qualified for a top World event at the end of this month.
Youngsters aged 14 to 17 will compete in the Scottish National Open Championships again at Tollcross and will face domestic competition such as Commonwealth champions Hannah Miley and Robbie Renwick plus world champions Maria Belmonte from Spain and Brazilian Henrique Barbosa .
The swimmers are looking to build on some strong performances so far this summer which have seen the club win 22 gold, 11 silver and 8 bronze medals at district level. During the most recent District Championships Lauren Averell set a west district age group record in the 100 butterfly, adding to two others already set this month by Jack Thorpe at the Sheffield Open in 100 freestyle and Kirstin McKinley as a member of the Scotland team at the Celtic Tri-Nations - also in 100 freestyle.
