Primary school children across Bearsden and Milngavie recently competed for the first time in a junior water polo tournament.

Pupils at St Andrew’s Primary in Bearsden came out as the champions after competing in matches against teams from Mosshead Primary, Bearsden and St Joseph’s Primary in Milngavie.

Jim Kerr, headteacher at St Andrew’s, said: “The children had never played water polo before, but every one of them enjoyed it very much.

“One pupil said that after giving it a go he would like to play in more matches, and the children are really looking forward to the next round of the competition.”

In water polo, teams of six field players and one goalkeeper aim to score by throwing the ball into a net, while swimming and treading water.
