Partick Thistle star is looking ahead to the new season

WITH the new season's fixtures list announced this week, Partick Thistle will kick-off their league campaign on August 7 with an away game against Raith Rovers.

This, according to defender Patrick Boyle, will be a difficult game to predict.

Boyle, who was out for a large part of last season with a hamstring injury, said: "It will be hard to say what the result will be.

"Obviously we want the win, but last season Raith rather had the better of us."

In the four encounters last season, Thistle drew 1-1 at home, lost 2-1 away, lost again 1-0 away, then drew 0-0 at home.

The Jags are keen on a victory in their opening game to set them up for the following week's tough home encounter against Dundee, who finished second in the league last season.

However Boyle warned: "We started the season well last year, but lost our momentum after the Christmas break.

"That is what let us down. If you look at Inverness Caley Thistle, they started slowly, but after Christmas they were on a roll to finish top of the league.

"We need to be on our guard against becoming too complacent early on."

Despite the league again appearing very tight with all teams capable of inflicting damage on the Firhill outfit, the lads will be looking forward to the tough encounter against Dundee.

Boyle said: "Dundee are going to be the ones to watch. It is not going to be an easy match, but it will give us a good indication of how the squad are performing so early in the season."

The player is now full fit following a frustrating season which saw him out of the squad for more than two months.

He said: "I only played a couple of games at the start of last season before I was injured and out of the squad with a damaged hamstring and a detached muscle from the bone.

"I am now 100 per cent fit and have been training, so will start the new season hitting the ground running."
