Partick Thistle need win over Dundee to push for promotion
PARTICK THISTLE put their foot back in the promotion door with victory over Airdrie on Saturday but know that defeat at Dens Park this weekend would end any lingering hopes.
Paul Cairney was their two-goal hero at the weekend and is hoping to help the Jags earn another three vital points against Dundee.
It will be a tough task against the First Division leaders, but Cairney said: "We all know it is going to be very difficult on Saturday as they have beaten us twice this season but we will be going there to win — that is the only way to approach it.
"Any other attitude would be wrong. We will take the game to them and probe for weaknesses."
Thistle sit fifth in the table on 35 points — nine behind Dundee — but Cairney reckons it's too early yet to say which side will be First Division champions.
He said: "It is not worth wasting the energy to try and predict where we will be in two months' time.
"All clubs have their strengths and weaknesses and can be dangerous on the day.
"We don't take anything for granted. Against Airdrie we were two goals up at half time, but after the break they came out and played a lot more confidently.
"I reckon they must have got a roasting, and all credit to them, they showed they had bags of determination in the second half."
Thistle's league match against Raith Rovers at Firhill on Saturday, March 13, will be re-scheduled after the Kirkcaldy side knocked SPL's Aberdeen out of the Scottish Cup on Tuesday night. They will face Dundee in the quarter-finals that weekend.
