Partick Thistle get set to take on Queen of the South

PARTICK Thistle need to give the club's long suffering fans something to smile about tomorrow (Saturday) when they face Queen of the South in their last home game of the season, according to striker Martin Grehan.

Saturday's win at Ross Country broke a dismal record that had seen the Jags fail to score a single goal in six outings over a five week period.

It came as a great relief to the Firhill faithful to see their team break the bad run of results.

Grehan, who scored Thistle's second goal against the Staggies, said: "It was a great win and very important for the team as it would have been a record had we not scored. It was certainly a record no one at the club wanted."

The forward added: "What we need to do now is put some of the fun back into the game and give the fans something to smile about."

And Grehan believes that finishing the home campaign with a win would also be good for next season.

He said: "We went through a bad spell. If we can show our fans that we are over this it will give us a boost before the new season.

"Although the league is decided we owe it to them. We will be playing for the fans and the three points."

Looking forward to next season Grehan is not expecting to be given many chances in the team because it had "a good spine."

He said: "We have a good mix of experience and youth, and there is a good mix of young players coming through, such as Paul Patton and Paul Cairney."
