Partick Thistle get set to take on Inverness Caley

PARTICK Thistle have to fight on despite their recent run of cruel defeats — according to defender Ian Maxwell.

A win last Saturday at Morton against would have given the Firhill outfit a glimmer of hope as they struggle to move up and out of the mid-table mire they have found themselves in following four straight defeats in a row.

The run was brought to an end by their creditable win against Dunfermline on Tuesday, and the players are now hoping the the tide has turned in their favour.

Maxwell, in common with every other team member, has been left scratching his head, wondering what caused their losing streak, but he's keen to put the bad memories behind them as they face promotion chasing Inverness Caley Thistle tomorrow (Saturday).

The vice-captain said: "We have been playing well but just not scoring the goals. Confidence is high and we are doing everything right on paper. It is just so disappointing this is not being turned into points."

Thistle dominated the first half of Saturday's game but squandered four or five good chances and paid dearly in the dying minutes of the game, just as it looked like both sides were about to settle for a point each.

Maxwell added: "I can't say it was anything but a bad result. I don't think we deserved lose, especially like this. We just have to battle on and see what we can do."

He pointed to Tuesday's beaten opponents Dunfermline for inspiration, who he said were looking shaky earlier in the season after suffering a run of bad luck, but after they knuckled down, they came back to lift themselves up in the league.

Maxwell said: "It can still be done. We are playing well and there is no lack of commitment in the team.

"We just need to be able to use the chances we create to score goals."

The squad know they will have their work cut out for themselves against Inverness Caley Thistle tomorrow, but have the consolation of facing them on home turf."
