Partick Thistle get set to take on Dundee
PARTICK Thistle need to learn from their defensive mistakes when they face Dundee tomorrow (Saturday), says keeper Bryn Halliwell.
Describing Saturday's opening game of the season — a 4-0 thumping from Raith Rovers — as "a bad day in the office", the goalie said he felt responsible for the defensive howler that saw Thistle concede their second goal.
The 29-year-old said: "Defensively we made errors and got punished for it.
"In particular, I take full responsibility for the mistake when I threw the ball out to Paddy Boyle and he was closed down before the second goal."
But rallying the squad, Halliwell said the shock defeat had given the team a rude wake-up call.
He said: "We have got the bit between our teeth now and are looking forward to getting out there tomorrow."
Dundee were runners-up in the league last season, finishing 12 points behind table toppers Inverness Caly Thistle on 73 points.
Halliwell said: "Dundee are pretty good, and one of the three or four teams looking to get promoted."
And he added: "There are no bad teams in this league and we just need to believe we can win. We need to put last Saturday's game behind us and just move on."
Part of the process of on moving on is learning not to make the same defensive mistakes.
The goalie said even though the squad was not as large this year, everyone was fit and they were all "pulling in the right direction."
He said: "We know were the weaknesses are and have been working on these in training. We have a great gaffer, and Ian and Craig are pushing us really hard in training. It is going well. Nobody likes to make mistakes and we are determined to improve."
