Partick Thistle to play Morton in League Cup second round

The draw for the Second Round of the League Cup has seen Partick Thistle handed an away tie against League One Morton.

This will be the 10th time that the two teams will have met in the League Cup with Thistle, marginally, holding the upper hand with four wins to Morton’s three.

Pundits need to go back in August 1993 for the last League Cup encounter between the two teams when, in a tie also played at Cappielow, a late goal by Albert Craig gave Thistle a 1-0 win.

Speaking about the tie manager Alan Archibald, said: “It’s a great tie. If you are going to get a tie against a side from a lower league then Morton, and Cappielow, is a great place to go. I was actually down there last week, just by coincidence, taking a game in and the surface looked fantastic. That’s one thing; we can’t have any complaints about the pitch as we could easily have had to play on an astroturf pitch.”

Thisle will play on August 26. Kick-off is 7.30pm

The full draw list scheduled to be played on August 26 and 27th is Hibernian v Dumbarton, Morton v Partick Thistle, Falkirk v Cowdenbeath, Queen’s Park or Rangers v Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hamilton Academical v Alloa Athletic, Stranraer v Ross County, Dundee v Raith Rovers, Livingston v Queen of the South, Kilmarnock v Ayr United, Stenhousemuir v Heart of Midlothian, St Mirren v Dunfermline Athletic.
