Partick Thistle hitman Buchanan aims to add to tally against Dunfermline Athletic

PARTICK Thistle striker Liam Buchanan is refusing to set a goal scoring tally for this season — as he doesn't want to jinx himself or his team.

The hitman has netted 11 times so far this term and is steadily closing in on his best ever Jags haul, the 14 he bagged in 2007-08.

However, that total would have been much higher if his season had not been cut short by injury.

That also affected his tally last season, but this term looks like being his most fruitful so far — if he can avoid being crocked again.

That's why the superstitious Firhill fans' favourite is avoiding setting any targets.

He said: "I used to set myself targets, but after being affected by injury for so long, I'm just taking it one game at a time.

"This season it's so far, so good. But I'm not going to jinx things by setting targets — just in case."

Buchanan was on target again on Saturday when Ian McCall's side travelled to Cappielow and came away with a 2-0 win against Morton.

The striker said: "It was a good three points to get. Cappielow is a hard place to go to, it's a very tight pitch, it's not like other grounds. We weren't so good in the first half, but we dominated in the second.

"I think we had a wake up call the week before against Raith when we got beat at home. It showed us that we can't just turn up and expect to win.

"Saturday's game brought a bit of confidence back to the dressing room."

The Jags will need every ounce of confidence, and will require the likes of Buchanan to be on top form, as they are on the road again on Saturday, travelling to East End Park to take on Dunfermline.

Buchanan said: "It will be a hard one. Jim McIntyre has got them playing well. Their wingers are decent and their defence is good.

"Like just about every game from now on in this division, it's going to be tough."
