Partick Thistle face double header against Ayr and Raith Rovers

PARTICK Thistle desperately need a win this weekend to give their supportive fans something to cheer about, according to midfielder Paul Cairney.

Following last Saturday's painful home defeat at the hands of Dundee, the club can look back on a miserable run of games with only one win in the last seven encounters.

However, Cairney believes the team's run of bad luck must come to an end soon and that they must start to live up to their potential.

He said: "Last Saturday's game was a case in point. Dundee are a good team, but we were more than a match for them. It was just bad luck that we did not win the game as we created some good chances."

"I think Dundee had one shot on target and it went in. It was just one of those days, Dundee worked hard but they didn't deserve to win."

The absence of captain Alan Archibald, who is out for the rest of the season following to a knee operation, can't have helped matters, but Cairney insisted the team played "really well."

Tomorrow (Saturday) Thistle face second from bottom Ayr at home, and on Monday they play their postponed game against Raith Rovers — also at Firhill.

With only two matches left to play after that, Cairney said the team owed it to the fans to try and win all their remaining games.

He said: "We have two big matches ahead of us and we need a wee run of success for the supporters, who have been great.

"At the moment we are sixth in the table and want to give the fans something to look forward to for the end of the season."
