Partick Thistle aim to get back on track against Airdrie United

PARTICK Thistle are one of the best sides in the First Division — even though they are currently languishing in mid-table no man's land.

So claims striker Liam Buchanan, who says he is perplexed at his side's disastrous recent loss of form which has seen them all but slip out of promotion contention.

The Jags are set to play Airdrie United at Firhill on Saturday.

He says this matche could provide a perfect platform for kick-starting their season.

Buchanan said: "We have to give Airdrie, like all our opponents, the respect they are due, but we need to start winning again.

"We have to get back on track as we have had a very bad run. In that respect, the Airdrie one and the one against Ayr before it are massive for us. In those two games we could go some way towards getting our season back on schedule again.

"I just don't know what's gone wrong recently. I still see us as one of the best teams in the league — and then when it comes to looking at the league table, it doesn't lie. We're sitting in the middle of the table, not at the top.

"We have just not been good enough in some games, despite our ability. No-one can seem to put their finger on it. We need to recapture some of the consistency we had at the start of the season.

"We will never write promotion off until it is mathematically impossible.

"However, we know it will be a massive task to catch Dundee and Ross County at the top. First thing's first, we need to start getting points."
