SHAUN Fraser made sure of victory with a late third goal after Queens had battled back into this match.

Early exchanges were even but Jags took control midway through the first half with Martin Grehan and Kris Doolan both having chances which they squandered.

They were forced to make a change in the 24th minute with Chris Erskine coming on for Bryan Hodge after the midfielder failed to recover from a fierce Stephen McKenna tackle.

Thistle forced several corners but failed to take advantage from Iain Flannigan’s crosses into the box.

But they made their deserved breakthrough in 34 minutes.

Paul Paton released Doolan and whether he meant to cross or shoot didn’t matter as the ball went over David Hutton and into the net.

Thistle had several chances to add to their advantage before the interval but Hutton blocked a Doolan shot and then held a 25-yard shot from Paul Paton.

Queens looked much more lively in the second half and Scott Fox made a fine save from an Allan Johnston shot.

The Jags keeper was in action again when he stopped a McKenna shot.

Fraser came on for Martin Grehan in the 71st minute and the sub found Doolan with his first touch but his shot was straight at the keeper.

It was Queens though who came close to coming back to level terms.

David Weatherston’s shot produced a fine save from Fox as he dived down and Allan Johnston then made a terrific goal-line clearance after Johnston slipped his shot behond Fox.

Jags looked to have secured the three points when they doubled their lead in the 84th minute.

It was a super strike from Erskine went past a couple of defenders on the left before firing past Hutton.

Queens grabbed a lifeline just two minutes later when Danny Carmichael beat Fox from close range.

But Jags restored their two-goal advantage with three minutes remaining when sub Fraser was on the spot to fire home from Erskine’s pass.
