O’Donnell signs new deal as Jags look to the future

THERE was more good news for Partick Thistle this week as defender Stephen O’Donnell signed a new deal which will keep him at the club till 2013.

Manager Jackie McNamara has been keen to hang onto his talent as he begins to look towards next season’s campaign and he is chuffed to have tied O’Donnell down to a deal.

He came to Firhill last summer after being released by Celtic, where he won the SFA Youth Cup.

The news comes in the wake of Aaron Sinclair agreeing to an extension.

O’Donnell said: I’m delighted the gaffer’s had the belief in me to give me a new deal. I’m really enjoying my football here, it’s been my first year playing actual first team football and it’s been great. I don’t think I’ve played well in every game, but it’s been a learning process for me.

“Hopefully now I have this deal I can get the level of consistency I believe I can give and that the gaffer deserves from me.

“Playing first team football every week is a great experience and I’ve learned so much already.”

McNamara said: “We’re happy Stephen’s agreed to stay, he’s done well in his first season at Firhill and we’re sure there’s more to come from him next year.”

Thistle travel to Dens Park to take on Dundee on Saturday. Kick-off is 3pm and a supporters’ bus leaves Milngavie Train Station at noon. Call 0141 6323604 to book.
