BADMINTON ace Imogen Bankier just misses out on a hat-trick in her bid to win three titles back to back.
The Milngavie player had to settle for the runners-up spot in the women’s doubles final at the Yonex Dutch Open on Sunday.
Bankier and Bulgarian partner Petya Nedelcheva went down in a three-game final against Japan’s Rie Eto and Yu Wakita 14-21 21-18 21-12.
In the last three weeks Bankier has won the French International mixed doubles with Robert Blair and the Finnish International women’s doubles with Nedelcheva.
The challenge in Wateringen began well on Friday when Bankier and Nedelcheva knocked out Dutch pair Samantha Barning and Iris Tabeling 21-13 21-17 and followed it up by edging past Malaysian sisters Hui Ern Ng and Hui Lin Ng, the second seeds 9-21 22-20 21-19.
A straightforward win over Russian pair Irina Khlebko and Ksenia Polikarpova 21-16 21-17 took them into the semi-finals where they came through another three-game battle with Indonesia’s Keshya Nurvita Hanadia and Devi Tika Permatasari 21-17 16-21 21-16.
