Partick Thistle will start their first SPL stint for nine years with a powder-keg clash against Dundee United at Firhill on August 3.

The game will see the return of former boss Jackie McNamara who, until very recently, was involved in an acrimonious dispute with the Maryhill side.

Jags fans will also welcome back former assistant Simon Donnelly and players Craig Hinchcliffe, Chris Erskine and Paul Paton who were all tempted over to Tannadice.

A club spokeswoman said: “We expect a bumper crowd that day as we unfurl the First Division Championship flag.”

The Jags last played Dundee United in a Scottish Cup tie at Firhill in January 2010, with the Arabs winning a controversial game 2-0.

Season 2013-14’s recently published fixture list covers the matches up to the split.

Dates to look out for include a New Year Day’s Glasgow derby with Celtic at Parkhead and a Boxing Day fixture at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
