Swimmers from Milngavie & Bearsden ASC scooped a club record haul of medals from last week’s Scottish National Age Group Championships at Tollcross.
The squad lifted 15 medals, including 10 golds, made 26 finals and finished 14th overall, one place higher than last year.
Pride of place went to Douglas Kelly who set three new national records on his way to a magnificent seven gold medals in the 11-13 years category, plus a gold and a silver, the exact same as last year.
Douglas set national bests in the 50 metres butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle as well as winning the 100m breast stroke, 100m and 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
He also claimed silver in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Zoe McDonald won golds in the 16 years 50m and 100m breaststroke and silvers in the 50m and 100m butterfly while Ellis Shields won her first national title in the 14 years 200m backstroke and took bronze in the 100m.
Other club swimmers to make finals were Julie Williams, Rachel Gillespie, Phoebe Kitchen, Michael Alcorn and Max Burns.
Delighted head coach Adam Riley said: “With just 19 swimmers qualified for 64 events the club were ranked to finish 25th overall. Then, on the eve of the meet, we lost one of our real medal hopes Iain Fletcher to illness. But that didn’t put the remainder of the squad off and the squad rose to the challenge.”
