Strathgryffe 3rd team 3

Allander 1st team 2

A tough challenge faced a below strength Allander team with the visitors missing their regular number three player and carrying a number of injuries.

The worst was Scott Hay who dropped down to number 5 and fortunately had adequate stroke-play to make up for being unable to run around the court. A few long strides in each rally was enough to win the majority of the points and to cruise to a 3-0 victory. Gregory Dudziak at 4 had a tough game in his first appearance in the team. He lost the first 2 games but only narrowly lost the third after a determined effort to use his faster pace against a less mobile opponent.

Phil Graves at number 3 suffered a similar 3-0 defeat. His usual bounce around the court was somewhat constrained by a sore knee. He lost the first game with a disputed point and the second. It was tight in the third, but Phil lost this aswell.

Colin McGeady at number 2 had plenty of chances of rescuing the team. In both of the first 2 games he looked in control and moved ahead to a couple of points short of winning, only to be beaten in a series of long, hard-fought rallies. He pulled back a game but again suffered a narrow defeat in the fourth, losing 15-12 and 3-1 in games.

Chris McGeady at number 1 managed to rescue some pride with a clinical 3-1 victory, after a slow start. Allander Mens 2nds team 4

Wanderers 2nd team 1

The opposition were unable to field a fifth player and thus registered John Millar a 3-0 walkover. Gordon Todd playing at position 3 romped to a two game lead only to stutter due to a muscle injury and clung on to win 3-1. Kevin Reilly played at position 2 against an Allander old-boy whose famed back court drop shots remain sublime. The match was bereft of rallies with each game ending extremely close, but the visitor won 3-0. Next on was Ken Findlay playing in the top slot against a vocal opponent. Unperturbed, Ken won 3-0 easily. Last on court was Sajj Chouhdry playing at position 4. He started well, then dropped a game but his fitness ensured a 3-1 win.
