The brand new Milngavie Trail Race attracted 114 runners competing over an eight and a half mile course with an ascent of approximately 500 feet.

Winner in the men’s section was Del Young in a time of 52mins 31 secs. Second was Gary Mathew (53.38) and third was Kevin O’Donoghue (54.31)

In the ladies’ race first across the line was Elespeth Luke in 1hr 4mins 3secs. She was followed by Rebecca Parry (1.05.35) and Lorna McMillan (1.06.17).

The race started and finishes at the headquarters of the 20th Glasgow (1st Milngavie) Scout Group near Lennox Park, with runners going through the wild and beautiful trails of the West Highland Way and Mugdock Country Park.

The race was organised by Graeme Reid a cub leader from 20th Glasgow (1st Milngavie) Scout Group, who limited the entrants in this first year of the race to just 150.

He said: “We had a really strong field of competitors from the world of athletics because it was a Scottish Athletics sanctioned event. The winning time by Del Young was fantastic.”

Around £1,200 was raised from the event which will be used by the scouts to improvements and repairs their scout hall and its grounds.
