Talented athlete Catriona Graves has been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Championships next month.
The 17-year-old from Milngavie had to finish in the top four to qualify for the Europeans, which will be held in the French Alpine region of Gap on July 12.
However she went two places better, finishing in second place at the Karrimor Great Trail Challenge in Keswick a couple of weeks ago.
The former Glasgow Academy student, who is taking a gap year before studying medicine , said: “It is exciting and a really good experience. I competed last year and came sixth.
“I am hoping to beat that. If I can finish in the top 10 I will be happy. Last year the running was mainly uphill, but this year it is more up and down. My running style favours uphill running.”
The gruelling cross country trail will be over a distance of four and a half kilometres and a 250m ascent.
Catriona is a member of Garscube Harrier, where she is coached by John Bell.
He said: “Her attitude and application has been second to none and is starting to pay dividends.
“She is a real inspiration to all of the younger member in the club.”
The young athlete trains six days a week and can regularly be seen running around Mugdock reservoir.
