Clober Golf Club’s Clinton Maxwell has been crowned the champion of champions for the whole of Dunbartonshire.
This is the first time a member of the club has won this prestigious title - which is open to all of last year’s club winners in the Dunbartonshire area and is run by the Dunbartonshire Golf Union.
Clinton (32), from Milngavie, who has been a member of Clober since he was seven, and now works as an assistant greenkeeper at the club, said: “It is the biggest thing I have ever won and such an honour to be the first club member to do it. I beat James Cooper from Dullatur Golf Club two and one on the 17th hole .”
The championship was held at Hayston Golf Club and Clinton, who plays off a one handicap, is now hoping for a call up to the county team.
He added: “This puts me alongside the big boys, but not quite on the level with those that play on the telly. At club level this is huge and the guys from Dunbartonshire Golf Union who were organising it said should be selected for the county team.”
Clober Golf Club secretary Gary McFarlane, said: “Clinton is a fantastic golfer and has worked hard on his golf this year to achieve this. If anyone deserves it, he does.
“It also good for the club and coming so close to the juniors winning the McIntyre Juniors League as well.”
