Milngavie cyclist Katie Archibald came from behind with a late surge to clinch bronze in the Commonwealth Games 25km points race in Glasgow yesterday.

The 20-year-old put in a superhuman effort to secure her podium place behind England’s Laura Trott who won gold and Wale’s Elinor Barker was got silver.

Competing at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in front of a cheering home crown, Archibald’s mum Louise said she was just over the moon.

Cheering her daughter on from the sidelines, Louise told Herald sport: “I spoke to her briefly after the race and she was very bubbly and excited. I think the home crown really helped her. She was over the moon because it was a really hard race. But she came through in the end.”
