Milngavie and Bearsden Swimming Club members came back from the Scottish Schools’ Swimming Championships with an impressive haul of medals.
In all 14 swimmers qualified for 19 events over in East Kilbride.
The swimmers excelled in this National event winning three golds, two silvers and two bronze medals. Even though they were competing for their individual schools, the team atmosphere was brilliant throughout the day and most of the swimmers recorded personal best times.
The club’s national champions were Iain Fletcher, from Bearsden in the 13/14yrs 100m and 200m fly and Greg Watson, from Bishopbriggs in the 17-19yrs 100m backstroke.
Both producing gutsy swims and earning their first National School Titles. Silvers went to Greg in the 200m backstroke and Jade Muir from Bearsden in the 12 and under 50m breast stroke in his first National event.
Bronze medallist went to Julie Williams from Bearsden in her last ever schools’ swim in the 17-19yrs 100m back and Ciaran Johnson, from Milngavie, who competed when not full fit to come third in the 15-16yrs 100m free style.
Other swims included a couple of unfortunate 4th place swims for Euan Watson from Bishopbriggs in the 13/14yrs 200m free and Zoe MacDonald from Bearsden in the 13/14yrs 100m free.
Other top six finishes included Victoria Reid (Bearsden) 5th 17-19yrs 100m breast stroke, Georgia Callander (Bearsden) 5th in the 100m fly and 6th in the 17-19yrs 200m fly.
The next big competition is the Commonwealth Games trials in Glasgow from April 3-6. The club will have an impressive team of 21 swimmers who have qualified in 83 events.
