Lewis shows the drive to succeed
A TOP junior Milngavie golfer is showing he is one to be reckoned with on the fairways after winning the Scottish Championship in his age group - only weeks after scoring a hole-in-one in another golfing tournament.
Lewis Road (12) achieved the fantastic result winning the under 12's age group with a gross 77 at Auchterarder, near Gleneagles.
The Milngavie Golf Club member is the first club player to win this event which has been described by the club's captain arthur Chapman as "tremendous, considering the wet, windy wether last Friday.
This is Lewis's first major championship and is all the more impressive considering he was diagnosed with a swollen oesophagus in January and has had to attend the Glasgow sick kids hospital for treatment and battle his way back to fitness.
Despite him having to take drugs to stop him from vomiting he has remained determined throughout and proved a real role model to youngsters at the club and beyond.
Arthur said: "I would like to congratulate Lewis on behalf of the whole club. His win was a tremendous achievement and he broke his handicap of 10 scoring 77 on the standard scratchcourse which was 69.
His two under par in such conditions was just incredible.
The whole of Milngavie Golf Club are really proud of him."
Lewis has been a member of the club since 2006 and earlier this month scored his SECOND hole-in-one while competing in the US Kids Golf European Championship in East Lothian's Craigielaw course.
He achieved this on the notoriously long and difficult par 3 number 10 - 133 yards hole.
