Iona’s a real Braveheart

Iona McLean (16) was the first Scottish table tennis player to compete in the UK School Games in Sheffield at the beginning of the month.

More than 1,600 youngsters from across the UK took part in the games.

Iona, who attends Merkland School in Kirkintilloch, is from Milngavie Road, Bearsden and showed a tenacious ability by playing some amazing shots to finish sixth overall.

She won her final game against a lad from Ireland, 11-1 11-2 and finished with a great backhand to go in front 3-0.

The youngster plays at Drumchapel Table Tennis Club.
