MILNGAVIE’S Imogen Bankier just failed to qualifying for the next round of the badminton Yonex All England Open Championships in Birmingham this week.
On day three the Olympian and Bulgarian Petya Nedelcheva came close in the women’s doubles, but went down in three games, beaten 14-21, 21-18 and 21-15 by seventh seeds Jung Kyung Eun and Kim Ha Na despite recovering to 18-18 in the second set.
But Bankier was far from despondent as she mapped out the months ahead.
The 2011 world mixed doubles silver medallist said: “Our short term goal is to qualify for the World Championships in the summer so we need to get our ranking up quite quickly. We are going to try and play quite a few tournaments between now and then.
“Then long-term, we want to try and compete and win some medals in the European Championships.”
And on the match she added: “We got it back to 18-18 in the second game and then a service fault came from nowhere which was quite annoying for us. I think we should have taken the second set. That was our chance to win.”
