Harriers in the running at the Highland Games

Five members of Garscube Harriers turned out for the Bearsden and Milngavie Highland Games 10k Road Race at Burnbrae, Milngavie on Saturday, June 8.

Andrew Gibson was the prize for finishing in second place in a time of 38 minutes 41 seconds while John McLaughlin took the veteran men’s prize coming in 5th overall in 39 minutes 53 seconds.

Other Garscube results were: 21st Charlene McCallum – 46:18, 27th David Esler – 47:50 and 41st Tony Hall 54:09. 59 runners completed the course.

On the same day Andrew Bell finished in 319th place out of 385 runners in the Glasgow parkrun 5k in a time of 32:08.

Garscube man Tariq Abdullah was placed 37th out of 59 runners in Bellahouston Harriers 2 Mile Time Trial at Pollok Park on Thursday, June 6.

Two members of the Harriers competed in the Cort-ma Law Hill Race (distance six miles, climb 1700 feet) on Wednesday, June 5.

Allan Jenkins finished in 60th place in 21 minutes 16 seconds and Alison Condie came in 65th in 1:36:13.

Dermot Williamson finished in 66th place out of 81 runners in the Benbecula Half Marathon in a time of 2 hours 07 minutes 26 seconds.

This was his second race this year in the Hebridean 3 series. On the same day Frances Brown came in 21st and first female under 20 in the Gargunnock Hill Race (distance 4.7 miles climb 1000 feet) in a time of 38 minutes 17 seconds. 61 finished.

Well done to Garscube’s Alastair Stanley on winning the Scottish Schools Pentathlon Over 17 Boys Championships at Grangemouth on 1st June competing for High School of Glasgow.

Alastair won with a total of 3288 points and in doing so achieved PBs in 4 out of the 5 events. His performances were: Shot Putt - 10.65m – PB, 110 metres Hurdles - 16.60s – PB, Long Jump - 5.78m – PB, 200metres - 23.63 – PB and 1500 metres - 4:17.40.
