Good result for Alex in ultra long distance marathon

Garscube Harrier athlete Alex Chalmers took part in an ultra long distance run in Speyside on August 28.

The Speyside Way Ultra Marathon was over a distance of 36-5 miles and Chalmers finished sixth in a time of 
4hrs 47mins 50secs in what was the runners’ first ultra event.

Meanwhile following the success of their Adult Foodbank race which was staged in June, the club in conjunction with active schools staged a Junior Foodbank race in Maryhill Park on Friday, August 29.

Over 70 children contested the 2k race in the park, with each child donating a can of food which was collected and delivered to a local Foodbank distribution centre.

And finally nine Garscube Harriers competed in the Paisley 10k on Sunday, August 31. First home for the club and 4th athlete U20 in 37th position was Mathew O’Brien in a time of 37mins 3secs, 192nd Keiran McLaughlin (43-51 ), 240th Paul O’Brien (45-06), 286th Craig Marsden (45-31), 353rd Tony Hall

(47-38), 452nd Ann Boal (50-03), 535th David Campbell (51-13), 625th Stuart Irvine (53-11), 746th Ragbir Singh (54-41).
