Garscube’s Catriona wins two impressive races

It was a brilliant week for Garscubes Catriona Graves when she won the Junior Road Race Championship on last Wednesday (May 7) and the U20 Hill Running Championship on Saturday.

She was competing at the Scottish Athletics 5k Road Race Championships in Silverknowes,Edinburgh. and won the trophy for 1st Junior Female in a time of 18mins 11secs.

Also on Wednesday at the Troon Tortoises 10k race, first home for the club in an impressive time of 42mins and second vet to complete the course was Norman Baillie. She was followed by Craig Brown (45-20).

The third race on Wednesday’s calendar was the Scottish Veteren Harrier Snowball Race run over a distance of 4-8 miles. The race started and finished in Drumpellior Park, Coatbridge. First home for the club in 29th position was Tony Hall (36-45 ), 35th Stuart Irvine ( 41-22 ).

On Saturday (May 10) at the Loch Leven Half Marathon, Kinross, Fiona Maurer completed the race in 220nd position in a time of 1hr 50mins 36secs. A total of 532 runners completed the course.

Again on Saturday at the SAL Junior Hill Running Championships which took place on Ben Lomond, runners in the U20 Category competed over a distance of 4-3k with a ascent of 235 metres. Catriona Graves covered the course in a impressive time of (21-49 ) almost 3 minutes in front of the second place runner to secure the Championship.

The following day, at the BUPA Great Woman 10k Glasgow, Jill Oniel was first home for the club in 27th position in a time 0f (42-18), 31st Diane Clark (42-42), 32nd Charlotte Wilson (42-43), 48th Marion Kelly (44-06) 85th Karen Mcilvenna (45-56), 133rd Emma Blair (47-01), 512th Morven Gray (52-08), 766th Beverley Chalmers (53-57),3408th Joan Morris (01-07-34).

A special thanks go out to Garscube club runners Irene,Heather, Karen-Ann and Morag, who acted as pace makers during the race.
