Garscube runners up for the challenge

A number of junior athletes from Garscube Harriers were competing at the Scottish Athletics, Young Athletes Road Championships on Sunday, March 15 at Battery Park, Greenock.

In the U13 Boys race held over a distance of 2-5k, Jack Trainer was first club runner to finish in 12th position in a time of 8mins 44secs. In 36th place was James Cathro in 9-06, 63rd, Ruaridh Stickland 9.36.

The Boys finished in 8th position overall in the team race.

In the U15 Boys race held over a distance of 4-2k, first club runner home in 21st position was Cody Stevenson in a time of 14-30. Other times: 38th, Arun Smith (15-03), 44th, Jamie Bennett (15-20), 52nd, Daniel McGarry (16-06). The Boys also finished in 8th position in the team race.

The U15 Girls race also run over a distance of 4-2k had Emily Sillars finishing in 46th place in a time of 19-28 and in 52nd place was Rachel Chalmers in a time of 20-42.

Meanwhile at the Clydebank 5k on Saturday March 21 there were seven personal bests and three season bests. First home for the club in 13th place with a pb in 15-52, was Del Young. In 22nd was Howard Smith, also with a pb, in a pb of 16-04. Other times: 31st, Alan Blair in a PB time of (16-34), 67th, U23

Athlete Mathew O’Brien in a PB time of (17-33), 71st and 3rd Woman, Lesley Chisholm in a SB time of (17-39), 78th, and his first race back after a long injury, Danny Burns in a PB time of (17-48), 103rd, Laura Devine in a PB time of (18-35), 109th, Paul O’Brien (19-10), 132nd, Craig Brown in a PB of (19-46 ), 162nd, Marion Kelly in a PB time of (20-34), 162nd, Stevie Cullen in a SB time of (24-12).

In the Victoria Junior parkrun on March 22, the trio of Adam O’Dell, Rory McMillan and Beth Trainer all

ran PB times, finishing 13th. Individual time were: Adam PB (9-06), 14th, Rory McMillan PB (9-12), 18th, Beth Trainer PB (9-37).
