Garscube athletes set the pace in an action-packed weekend

THERE was a good turnout of 38 members of Garscube Harriers for the Scottish National Cross Country Relay Championships at Cumbernauld last Saturday.

The ladies A team of Katie White, who was timed at 16 minutes 08 seconds, Kirsty Husband 16:19 and Laura Devine 17:33 finished in ninth in the Senior Women’s 3 x 4000 Metres Relay in a total time of 50 minutes 00 seconds.

The Vets Team of Ali Winship 17:58, Kath Scott 20:34 and Lesley Chapman 19:54 were sixth Vets Team to finish in 58:26, while in the Senior Men’s 4 x 4000 Metres Relay the Vets Team of Alex Chisholm 16:04, Stephen Mulrine 15:21, John Bell 15:05 and John McLaughlin 16:07 were also sixth Vets Team to finish in 1:02:37.

Young Females 3 x 2500 Metres: A Team 26th – 37:18 Eilidh Smith 13:29, Rachel Busby 11:41, Catriona Booth 12:08; B team 44th – 42:25 Kirsty Donaldson 14:14, Eleanor Smith 16:01, Frances Brown 12:10.

Young Males 3 x 2500 Metres: Calum Esler – 12:44, Adam Duff – 10:55.

On the same day Stuart Irvine finished in 127th place in 25:50 and Andrew Bell in 204th place in 30:59 in the Glasgow Parkrun 5k race in Pollok Park.

Three Garscube men were in action in the Aviemore Half Marathon on Sunday October 16.

Stevie Kilpatrick finished in 49th place in a time of 1 hour 29 minutes 37 seconds followed by Tariq Abdullah 235th in 1:45:13 and Dermot Williamson 243rd in 1:45:27.

Thirty six members of Garscube Harriers completed in the Dunbartonshire AAA Cross Country Relay Championships at Helensburgh on Saturday October 15.

The medal winners were: U11 Boys 1500 Metres 3rd Elliot Duff – 07:19, Young Females 3 x 2500 Metres – 3rd Team in 29:35 Nicola Brechany 10:05, Rachel Busby 09:35, Frances Brown 09:55.

Frances also won a medal for the fastest U17 girl in the race. Senior Women 3 x 4000 Metres – 1st Team in 52:07 Laura Devine 16:54, Marian Kelly 18:00, Charlotte Wilson 17:13.

Laura Devine won the medal for fastest senior.

Senior Men 4 x 4000 Metres – 2nd Team in 58:04 Adam Taylor 14:11, Euan Geddes 15:28, Joe McKnight 14:33, Ben Melby 13:52.
