Friday night’s alright for Partick Thistle as they take on Hamilton Accies

PARTICK Thistle hope Friday night will be alright for fighting off the opposition and try to consolidate their lead at the top of Division One.

The Jags moved three points clear of closest rivals Dunfermline after hammering the Pars 4-1 in front of a 5000-plus crowd at Firhill on Saturday.

Their next test will come on Friday night when they take on Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park.

Thistle have ben on imperious form at home this season - but have occasionally stuttered away from Firhill.

Manager Jackie McNamara is determined to build on his team’s success against Dunfermline by pulling even further away before their promotion rivals have even touched a ball.

He said: “Saturday was a great day all round for us. The boys played really well, I’d say it’s one of our best displays so far this season, and we scored five great goals.

“I think what was really pleasing for us is that we had three key players missing so that tells us a lot about the squad we have here.

“A special mention has to go to the fans who turned out in their numbers – it was great to see the stadium with so many in it and the atmosphere they created was fantastic.

“We’d love that in every home game and we hope we did enough to bring them back.

“It’s far too early in the season to get carried away though, it’s simply another three points. We’re away to Hamilton this week for another difficult game.

“The players’ routine is a little bit different this week as the game’s on Friday night, but they’re professionals and will prepare correctly as always.”

Kick off on Friday is at 7.45pm.
