Partick Thistle all set to kick-off new season at Hamilton

Partick Thistle kick off their third successive SPFL Premiership campaign on Saturday when they face Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park.

Alan Archibald’s side completed their pre-season build-up on Monday night when they drew 1-1 with Rotherham United at Firhill.

Now the action begins for real - and striker Christie Elliott for one can’t wait to get started.

The English hitman told the club’s website: “The team are raring to go for the competitive action now and we can’t wait get to get started this week against Hamilton.

“It will be a tough test for us. Hamilton had a good season last season, but we are confident and we can’t wait to get going.”

Jags and Accies met four times in the league last season and apart from Thistle’s 5-0 romp at Firhill in January the matches were all close affairs.

Both games at New Douglas Park ended in draws - 3-3 and 1-1 - while Accies won 2-1 at Firhill last August.

However Thistle were 2-0 winners when the teams clashed in the Scottish Cup at Firhill in November.

Elliott said: “It’s a big game to start off with and we want to get the perfect start to the season with three points. Getting that winning start is really important; it could push us on to a good season if we get a good start.”
