Dundee’s late leveller shares the points

Partick Thistle 1

Dundee 1

A disappointing late slip by Partick Thistle defender Conrad Balatoni gave Dundee a share of the points at Firhill on Saturday.

Thistle had taken the lead just before the hour when James Craigen scored his second goal of the season, finishing off a fine move from close range.

But Balatoni turned Philip Roberts’ drive past Paul Gallacher to level matters in the 89th minute of the game.

The game started slowly and it took a full 10 minutes before there was a first real strike at goal. It came from Thistle’s Ryan Stevenson with a left-foot effort from 18 yards which flew wide.

At the other end, Dundee’s first chance fell the way of Greg Stewart as he pounced just inside the penalty box.

Into the second half and following Craigen’s goal on the hour mark the game livened up somewhat when Dundee’s Gary Irvine dispossessing Higginbotham to drive a shot from the edge of the area going wide of the goalkeeper’s right hand post.

Thistle continued to create the better chances, but found it hard to covert these into goals.

Craigen had the ball laid into his path by Higginbotham on the edge of the box but the Thistle midfielder ballooned his effort over the bar.

Fraser had another effort just wide and Abdul Osman, following a mazy run, could not get enough power on his shot to trouble Letheren.

And those missed chances were punished when Balatoni diverted Roberts’ low driven ball into his own net.
