A COMBINED shinty team from Douglas and Boclair academies came out on top in a tournament recently at Ravenscraig, Motherwell.

The Scottish Secondary Schools 9-a-side Challenge Trophy attracted kids from across the west of Scotland and in a pulsating final, the team beat Lochgilphead 2-0 - despite the Argyll side defeating the winners in the earlier stages of the championship.

Meanwhile there were further victories for the Milngavie and Bearsden Junior Shinty Club Primary 7 team who won the Central Scotland Indoor League and the Kelvinhall Indoor Tournament.

The squad will now go on to the National finals, held in Fort William this Saturday (tomorrow), along with the Primary 5 team who also qualified for a place.

If any primary aged children are interested in trying shinty, training is held at Douglas Academy Sports hall on Fridays at 6.30pm. All welcome.

VICTORIOUS . . . the Douglas and Boclair Academy shinty team with their shield.
