Cross country success for Clydesdale runners

A group of Clydesdale Harriers athletes competed in the National Cross Country Championships at Callendar Park, Falkirk last week.

A broad cross section of the club from young to old took part and due to the rain, the course was muddier than in the past few years.

First race was the Under 13 Boys all running 3,200m. Fastest harrier was Robert Whittick (14mins 45secs), followed by Evan Currie (16.00), Luke Lindup (16.12), Cairn Wallace (16.26), Ronan Ross (16.50), and Jack Dolan (18.42).

The Under 13 Girls had Caitlin Stuart running 3200m in 20.15.

Next up was the Under 15 Boys running 4,000m. Fastest harrier was Brian Aird (15.55), followed by Lewis Hay (16.44), and Calum Ross (17.19).

Under 15 Girls also ran 4,000m and had Iona Allan running well to finish in 19.29.

The Senior Women ran 8,000m and Hylda Stewart finishing in 42.44.

Lastly the Senior Men had an excellent turnout of 14 runners competing over 12,000m. Fastest harrier was Paul Carroll (46.53), followed by Robert O’Neill (47.25), Michael Diver (47.43), Iain Robertson (48.19), James Austin (48.54), Kevin Farmer (50.26), Martin King (53.20), Hugh Laverty (53.54), Paul McKendry (56.41), Ryan Nelson (57.44), Dewar Stewart (60.20), Gerry Kane (61.10), Peter Rudzinski (64.40), and Watson Jones (65.12). Paul, Robert, Michael, Iain, James and Kevin were 16th team overall and were 1st team from the Dunbartonshire area.

Over the weekend of February 8, the club held its own cross country championships at Carleith Farm, Duntocher. Men and women all ran approximately 4.2 miles. Fastest harrier was Paul Carroll (27.51), followed by Michael Diver (29.52), Ian Robertson (30.30), Brian Gallagher (32.00), Pamela McCrossan (33.04), Paul McKendry (34.50), and Gerry Kane (36.55).
